Kingston Rotarian Sondra Peters and her committee have finalized plans for the Verizon Golf Challenge for Kingston Rotary. Golfers will gather at White Horse Golf Club on June 24 for the fifth annual tournament. Celebrity players, such as former Seattle Seahawks, have joined golfers in the past for a day of festivities on this award-winning golf course.

This is a major fundraiser for Kingston Rotary, and one of the summer events that raise money to support community projects. Schools and Parks Around Kingston (SPARKS) is the major focus of Rotary’s efforts.

The Fourth of July Fun Run is the next event on Rotary’s busy summer calendar. Runners will meet at the Kingston Medical Center on July 4 at 8:30 a.m. for the event. Runners can choose a 10K,  5K, or one mile loop.  For more information and pre-registration, check the web site at www.kingstonrunning.org or contact Clint Boxman at clint.boxman@edwardjones.com.

Kingston Rotary’s Beer Garden, in conjunction with Concerts on the Cove, will begin at 6 p.m. on July 7 and continue every Saturday evening through Aug. 27.  There are some great concerts scheduled for this summer and the Beer Garden offers a great place to meet with friends and neighbors while you enjoy the music.

Kingston Rotary will soon participate in its first Summer Youth Exchange Program. Megan Martin, who is just completing her sophomore year at Kingston High School, will depart on June 11 for Pavia, Italy. She will stay in the home of Virginia Magnaghi, her Rotary exchange mate.

Virginia’s parents are professors at the University of Pavia. Virginia and Megan plan to return to Kingston in time to participate in the Fourth of July parade. During her stay, Rotarians and Megan’s family will introduce Virginia to the Pacific Northwest.

Kingston Rotary will be quite busy this summer, participating in these varied events. New members are always welcome to attend Rotary meetings and support our latest projects. Luncheon meetings are held at the Kingston Cove Yacht Club at noon, every Wednesday.

Rotary Club of Kingston-North Kitsap meets at noon on Wednesdays at the Kingston Cove Yacht Club.
