POULSBO — The Kitsap County Historical Society will award five Kitsap families with the 2012 Kitsap Heritage Family Awards. These families were chosen for their contribution to the community and their longevity in the county. Descendants will represent their pioneer families at the banquet.

The families being honored at the Sept. 21 Heritage Banquet are the William DeShaw Family of Bainbridge Island, the Norum/Sommerseth/Langer Family of North Kitsap, the Charles E. and Edith Greaves Family of Central Kitsap, the John Gorst/Charles Ainsworth Family of South Kitsap, and the James H. and Annie L. Lent Family from Bremerton.

The recipients were chosen from nominations submitted by the public. Each family met the following criteria: The family has been a part of Kitsap County for 100 years or more, the family has made a significant contribution to their community, and there are members of the family still residing in Kitsap County.

The banquet will be held at Kiana Lodge. For more information, contact the Kitsap Museum at (360) 479-6226 or info@kitsaphistory.org.
