At the coachs level, you can see plays unfold, hear strategy moves called and the chatter among the players. It is the players zone that is the most fun to be in the middle of. My dad really wants to be the equipment caddy on my next Seahawks shoot!
The sports zone is the intense focus of the players combined with the determination of the coaches, fans and spectators. This air is what will help drive a team from playing just another game to playing career prep sports. I saw a brand new team come together this year so fast, it made even my head spin a bit.
The Kingston High School girls basketball team was brought together for the first time this year. Some were former players from North Kitsap High School and some were new players. In all my sports assignments this winter, KHS games were the most fun to shoot. I have not recently seen the level of intensity and passion for game come from so many diverse angles. The coaching really fostered this and it showed on the court. At times, I would just focus on the coach or the fans during the first season.
As these players progressed through the season, it became pretty clear that they are a force in the class. Mopping the competitors at some games, they blazed a road to state. The on-court chatter between the players and the immediate feedback from the coach and the fans made Kingston a six-player team.
The ensemble team will continue to grow and flourish during the off-season and the community is looking forward to another fun and action-packed season next winter.
For the strobist readers out there, this image was shot using two Canon 580s on the ground as fill with a main light bouncing off the top of the gym.
We planned on killing all the lights in the gym but couldnt find the key. So a quick regroup and we still had a fun shot of the whole team.
