The Kingston library is now open six days a week! Our first week of the new hours was a little slow because of Spring Break, but the second week was much more active. For those of you who missed the change, here are our new open hours:

Monday, Wednesday:

10 a.m.-5 p.m.

Tuesday, Thursday: 1-8 p.m.

Friday, Saturday: 1-5 p.m.

Sunday: CLOSED

These hours are posted on the two book drops outside the Kingston Community Center building. We also have bookmarks and magnets with our new hours to help you remember the change.

The Kingston Needlework Bee will meet at 6:30-8 p.m. Tuesdays, May 2, 16 and June 4. All are welcome to bring any small-to-medium needle project. This group is also intended as a resource for people wanting to learn a needle craft such as knitting, beading, crochet, embroidery, or needlepoint. The Bee meets in the Kingston library, with the craft books close at hand. Newcomers are welcome.

The Kingston Book Group will meet at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 3 to discuss Curtis Sittenfeld’s book, “Prep.” During the late 1980s, 14-year-old Lee Fiora leaves behind her middle-class Indiana family to enroll in an elite co-ed boarding school in Massachusetts.

Please remember to return any past book group books you might have at home as the sets are reserved by other book groups in Kitsap County. Our next book will be “Fahrenheit 451” by Ray Bradbury.

The Kingston Friends of the Library meets at 10 a.m. Tuesday, May 9 in the library.

Story Time for children up to age six years returns on Tuesdays at 10:30 a.m. May 10, 7, 24, 31 (and June 7, 14) in the Kingston library. This half-hour presentation might include stories, songs, and finger plays, all designed to help preschool children establish an interest in language and reading. It is also a great way to introduce your child to the library! When Story Time is over, children and parents can select books together.

Our Summer Reading Programs have been scheduled. They will all take place at 1:30 p.m. Tuesdays in the Kingston Community Center: July 18 the Reptile Man will display his collection of exotic animals; Aug. 1 Roberto the Magnificent will conjure up some magic; Aug. 15 Puppets Please will entertain us with songs and stories; Aug. 19 Jeff Evans will share his magic with us. Please save these dates now!

Thank you for your support of our library!

Susan Thorsteinson is branch manager of the Kingston branch of Kitsap Regional Library, located inside the Kingston Community Center, 11212 Highway 104, (360) 297-3330.
