The state Department of Transportation closed the Hood Canal Bridge to marine traffic Tuesday morning, after its opening system malfunctioned Monday. The bridge remains passable for vehicles.

According to a DOT news release, the bridge closed faster than it was supposed to following an opening Monday. The malfunction caused minor damage to the bridge.

DOT hasn't determined how long the bridge will remain closed to marine traffic and is running tests to determine why the opening system malfunctioned.
