Bucs, Vikes knock out Tuesday opposition; prepare for rivalry game | Girls Soccer

KINGSTON — There's one thing standing in the way of the Kingston Buccaneers and an undefeated first month of League play: the North Kitsap Vikings.

The Bucs have never been undefeated for five games, which they accomplished Sept. 24, defeating the North Mason Bulldogs 3-1. However, the Bucs have also never won a game against the Vikings.

"We're going to give it another try," Kingston head coach Craig Smith said.

The Bucs and Vikes play each other Sept. 26 on Buccaneer Field at 6:45 p.m. The winner of the game will continue into October undefeated.

With a 6-0 record, the Vikes have shutout five of the six teams they've played this season. The fifth shutout came Sept. 24, with a 3-0 win over the Port Angeles Roughriders.

If the Vikes keep with tradition and defeat their cross-town rivals, the Bulldogs will be the sole team remaining in the Olympic League they have not beat. The Bulldogs and Vikes are scheduled to play Oct. 3 at North Kitsap Stadium.

Though the Bucs are undefeated as well, the team has allowed one goal scored against them during four of the five games they've played. However, Smith said the Bucs are doing well defending inside.

In order to have a chance against the Vikings, Smith said the Bucs need to control the pace of the game, be patient, and work through injuries.

"North is going in with a lot of confidence," Smith said.
